
Spartans Continue Singles Action at Big Ten Indoors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis continued action at the Big Ten Indoor tournament on Saturday, hosted at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility on campus.
The Spartans completed their run in the main draw of singles play and picked up a handful of wins in consolation matches in the afternoon. They will wrap up the tournament tomorrow with the final rounds of doubles competition.
Max Sheldon ended his run in the main draw this morning as the last man standing from the Green & White. In the round of 16 he faced up against Ilya Tirapolsky of Indiana, falling in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Michigan State earned six consolation wins in the back draw of singles action Saturday afternoon. Jack Winkler and Luke Baylis made it to the final eight and will continue play tomorrow. Starting off against Bengsston of Northwestern, Winkler won in a three-set tiebreaker. He faced off against Popvic from Wisconsin in the round of 16 and won via retirement.
Graydon Lair found himself in a matchup with Purdue's Galus, also winning in a battle of three sets. He took the first set in a 7-6 tiebreaker and found himself down 4-6 after the second set, but climbed back for a 10-4 third set win to move on to the round of 16. Up against Goli of Northwestern he fell in another three-set rout, 4-6, 6-0 10-7.
Luke Baylis is back tomorrow in the round of eight. After winning in straight sets against Indiana's Fletchall, he then took on Berdusco of the Wildcats. Baylis fought out of a first-set tiebreaker 7-6 (4) and won the second set 7-5.
