Michigan State Falls Short at Purdue

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State took a lead during the second half, but Purdue used a late run to pull away as the Spartans dropped their second-straight game, 75-65, at Mackey Arena on Tuesday night.

Junior forward Aaron Henry (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and had four assists to lead Michigan State, while redshirt junior forward Joey Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point) added 11 points and four rebounds and sophomore forward Julius Marble (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Jesuit) added 10 points and three rebounds.

Michigan State falls to 10-9 overall and 4-9 in the Big Ten Conference, while Purdue improves to 14-8 overall and 9-6 in league play.

After a sluggish start in the first half, the Spartans trailed by three points, 30-27, at the break, but took a 42-41 lead on a 3-pointer from Hauser with 12:57 to play in the game.
The Boilermakers took the lead back, but a 3-pointer from junior forward Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) pulled MSU to within 51-50 with 8:24 remaining.
Purdue responded with consecutive 3-pointers – one from Jaden Ivey and another from Eric Hunter Jr. – to take a 57-50 lead as the Spartans called a timeout with 7:39 left.
A jumper from Henry with 6:04 to play made it 57-56, but Purdue's Trevion Williams – who scored a game-high 28 points – scored seven of the next nine points as the Boilermakers took a 66-59 lead with 2:43 left and MSU got no closer than five points the rest of the way.
The first half was back and forth with two ties and six lead changes.
MSU had a 25-24 lead on a basket from Henry with 1:30 left, but Purdue used a 6-2 burst to take a 30-27 lead at the break.
