MSU Track & Field’s Magness Named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week

The junior set a school record in the 5,000m last week.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior track & field athlete Jenna Magness was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Magness, a native of Grand Ledge, Michigan, earned her first-ever Big Ten honor after her record-setting performance at the B1G SPIRE Invitational on Feb. 12. Magness shattered the Michigan State record in the women's 5,000m, finishing first with a time of 15:42.73. The previous record was held by Emily MacLeod in 2011 with a time of 15:48.20. Magness' time was the third-fastest in the NCAA this season.
She is the first Spartan to earn Big Ten Indoor honors since Jeralyn Poe was named Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 22, 2020.
The Spartans are back in action on Friday, Feb. 19 at the Silverston Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan
