Spartan Women’s Tennis Topped By No. 8 Buckeyes

MSU’s third of four-match road swing.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Michigan State women's tennis team was topped by No. 8 Ohio State Friday afternoon at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.
After the Buckeyes captured the doubles point, host-OSU won five of the six singles matches, winning Friday's Big Ten dual, 6-1. Friday was MSU's third of a four-match road swing, after playing at Purdue and Indiana last week. With the loss, Michigan State is 3-3 overall and 3-2 in Big Ten action.
Junior Lauren Lemonds was the lone victorious Spartan on the day, with a come-from-behind victory over OSU's Lisa Hofbaur. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Lemonds bounced back to take the second set, 7-5, then won the third-set tiebreaker, 1-0 (10-8).
OSU won the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 decisions at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Buckeyes stretched their lead with wins at No. 5 and 4 singles. At No. 2 singles, graduate senior Samantha Memije was defeated by No. 78-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers, 6-3, 6-2, while at No. 1 singles, senior Mary Lewis was edged by Isabelle Boulais, 7-5, 6-3. OSU won at No. 6 singles, before Lemonds got MSU on the board with her win at No. 3 singles.
Michigan State wraps up its four-match road swing by heading to University Park, Pennsylvania to take on Penn State on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. at the Sarni Tennis Center. Live stats and video links can be found on msuspartans.com.
Following the match at Penn State, the Spartans will return home for a pair of contests against teams from the Land of Lincoln. MSU will host Northwestern on March 6 and Illinois on March 7.
