Spartans Complete Day One of the Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, South Carolina – The Michigan State women's golf team opened play at the Briar's Creek Invitational on Monday in South Carolina. All 18 teams in the field got through the opening round, but play was suspended due to darkness in round two at 7:25 p.m. on Monday. The second round will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, immediately followed by the third and final round.

Through one round of play at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek, the Spartans were 19-over-par 307 and in sixth place. Host College of Charleston led after round one at 9-over-par 297.
Yurika Tanida led the way for the Spartans in round one as she was tied for seventh place after 18 holes with a 2-over-par 74.
Leila Raines was just a shot back with a 3-over-par 75 and was tied for 14th place. Valery Plata shot a 4-over-par 76 and was tied for 21st place.
Paz Marfa Sans shot a 10-over-par 82 and Sydney Naro a 13-over-par 85.
Victoria Huskey of the College of Charleston and Jana Melichova of Old Dominion were the only individuals in the field to shoot under par in round one as both turned in 71s to lead all players.
