
Spartans Down Nebraska, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State men's tennis team defeated Nebraska, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, to win its third Big Ten match of the season.
The Spartans (3-6, 3-4 Big Ten) won the doubles point for the second dual in a row and proceeded to claim four of the six singles matches in the victory over the Huskers.
The No. 1 pair of Nick Williams and Kazuki Matsuno proved to be a strong combination again for the Spartans, as they recorded their fourth consecutive win in Big Ten play, this time with a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker over Brandon Perez and Victor Moreno Lozano. Jarreau Campbell and Graydon Lair got things going for MSU with a 6-3 win on court three against Patrick Cacciatore and Albert Sprlak-Puk. The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished after reaching a tiebreaker.
Drew Keene won in straight sets over Cacciatore at No. 6 singles to give MSU a 2-0 lead. After Nebraska got on the board with a victory at No. 4 singles, the Spartans clinched the dual as Williams took down Perez on the second court, 6-4, 6-2, and Lair won on the fifth court against Nic Wiedenhorn, 6-2, 7-5.
Carson Gates dropped a tough third-set super tiebreaker at No. 3 singles to Shunya Maruyama, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4), but Josh Mukherjee closed it out for Michigan State by edging Moreno Lozano in the top spot, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
