Spartans Come up Short at No. 2 Iowa on Sunday

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's field hockey team lost 2-0 at No. 2 Iowa on Sunday, it's second-straight loss to the Hawkeyes over the weekend.
It was the fifth-straight loss for the Spartans, who fall to 1-8 overall I1-5 in the Big Ten Conference), while Iowa improves to 9-1 overall (5-1 B1G).
Iowa scored late in the first quarter and were held at bay by the Spartans until early in the fourth quarter, when Sofie Stribos added a second goal for the Hawkeyes in the 48th minute.
Freshman Emma O"Neill (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) took both penalty corners for the Spartans, resulting in shots for Nienke Bloemsaat (Oosterhout, The Netherlands/Sint-Gelbert Gymnasium), the first blocked and the second just wide.
Iowa had a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in penalty corners.
Junior Monique Jardells (Whitehall, Ohio/Whitehall) made six saves for the Spartans.
Michigan State returns home next weekend, hosting Michigan for a pair of games, first on Friday, April 2 (3 p.m.) and then on Sunday, April 4 (noon).
