
Michigan State Falls at Home to No. 4 Michigan, 3-0

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's field hockey team gave up a pair of goals in the second half to break open a close game en route to a 3-0 loss to in-state rival Michigan on Friday at Ralph Young Field.
It was the seventh-straight loss for the Spartans, who fall to 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the Big Ten Conference. Michigan, ranked No. 4 in the country, improves to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in league play.
The Wolverines opened the scoring with just over four minutes left in the first quarter on a goal from Sarah Pyrtek.
After a scoreless second quarter, Michigan added a goal from Kaylan Reed midway through the third with an assist from Hallie O'Neill. Anouk Veen closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter with a blast from the left of the circle on a feed from Clare Brush.
Michigan had a 23-1 advantage in shots and an 11-0 edge in penalty corners.
Junior goalkeeper Jade Arundell (County Kildare, Ireland/The Kings Hospital) made 10 saves for the Spartans.
Michigan State hosts Michigan on Sunday, April 4 (1 p.m.) at Ralph Young Field to close out the weekend. The Spartans will honor three members of the team prior to the game for Senior Day.
