Spartans Complete Opening Two Rounds of the Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – The Michigan State men's golf team played the opening two rounds of the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday at Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Spartans were one of eight teams in the field of 16 to complete both rounds before darkness halted play for the day just after 8:30 p.m.

MSU is 4-over-par 580 (287-283) and tied of sixth place. Four teams ahead of the Spartans also completed both rounds on Saturday, including Indiana, which leads the field at 10-under-par 566.
James Piot and Troy Taylor II led the Spartans through the opening two rounds as both will be in the top 20 when play resumes Sunday morning. Piot shot a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round, then carded an even-par 72 in the afternoon and stands at 1-under-par 143.
Taylor was one of five players that shot a 4-under-par 68 in the opening round to tie for the lead. His 68 included six birdies and tied his career low round. Taylor shot a 4-over-par 76 in round two and is even-par 144.
Bradley Smithson shot a 2-over-par 74 in the opening round then cut a stroke off his second-round total with a 73 and is 3-over-par 147.
Andrew Walker also shot a 1-over-par 73 in round two. He began the day with a 3-over-par 75 to stand at 4-over-par 148 for the tournament.
August Meekhof is 5-over-par 149 (74-75).
Minnesota's Angus Flanagan leads the field individually at 6-under-par 138.
