There will be six NCAA regionals being played next week. The low five teams and the low individual not on one of the five advancing teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Piot is one of 10 individuals playing in the Kingston Springs Regional in addition to the 13 teams.
Piot, who was also voted to the All-Big Ten First Team, leads Michigan State with a 71.3 scoring average. The native of Canton has one individual title this year and has placed in the top-six in five of the Spartans' last six tournaments. The last time out at the Big Ten Championships, Piot recorded the best finish of his career at the league tournament, placing sixth.
Piot's current 72.16 career average is the best program history, leading the current top-placeholder - PGA Tour pro Ryan Brehm (2004-08) – by over one stroke.
Piot is making his third appearance in the NCAA Regionals as his previous two came with the Spartans as a team. As a sophomore in 2019, Piot shot an even-par 210 and tied for 40th place as the Spartans took seventh at the Pullman Regional. As a freshman in 2018, Piot tied for 30th at 1-over-par 222 in the Columbus Regional.
The last Spartan to play in an NCAA Regional as an individual was Matthew Moseley in 2013, who tied for 22nd place in the Central Regional.
