Spartans Lead Git-R-Done Husker Invite After Two Rounds

LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Michigan State men's golf team is 1-over-par 569 (291-278) and in the lead by four shots after two rounds of play on Saturday at the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska. A pair of Spartans occupy the top-two spots in the field as James Piot is first at 5-under-par 137 and Troy Taylor II is second at 4-under-par 138.

The Spartans were 7-over-par 291 after the opening round and in fourth place, but then shot the best score of the day in round two with a 6-under-par 278. MSU leads Minnesota by four strokes and is in front of third-place Kansas State by five shots.
Piot carded a pair of rounds in the 60s at the Firethorn Golf Club on Saturday. He started the day with seven birdies and a 3-under-par 68. He followed with a 2-under-par 69 in round two that included just one bogey.
Taylor, who is one shot back of Piot for the lead, opened with a 1-under-par 70. Then he shot a 3-under-par 68 in round two, tying his best round of the season. The second round included an eagle on the pary-5, 595-yard 11th hole.
August Meekhof, Andrew Walker and Bradley Smithson all bettered their scores in the second round, and all sit in the top 30.
After a 5-over-par 76 in round one, Meekhof shot an even-par 71 in round two and is tied for 21st place at 5-over-par 147. Andrew Walker bounced back from a 7-over-par 78 with a 1-under-par 70 in round two and is tied for 25th place at 6-over-par 148.
Smithson is 7-over-par 149 (77-72) and tied for 30th place.
All nine teams in the field will begin Sunday's final round with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET.
