Spartans Wrap-Up Day One of the Big Ten Championships

CARMEL, Indiana – The Michigan State men's golf team shot a 24-over-par 312 and is in ninth place after the opening round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. The Spartans are just three shots out of the top five, while No. 11 Illinois and Iowa lead the tournament after both posted a 12-over-par 300 in the first round at the 7,325-yard course.

Troy Taylor II birdied four the first six holes to lead all Spartans with a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 14th place.
James Piot finished the first round one shot back of Taylor at 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 21st place.
Andrew Walker carded a 7-over-par 79 and is tied for 36th place, while August Meekhof is tied for 43rd place after an 8-over-par 80.
Bradley Smithson shot a 9-over-par 81.
Northwestern's John Driscoll was the only player in the field to shoot under par, posting a 1-under-par 71.
The Spartans will tee off from the 10th hole between 9:40-10:16 a.m. in Saturday's second round.
