Spartans in Fourth When Indiana Invitational Resumes on Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – The Michigan State women's golf team was tied for third place after the opening round of play at the Indiana Invitational on Saturday in Bloomington, Indiana. The Spartans were 4-over-par 292 and tied with two other teams for third place – just two shots behind the leader, Kent State.

Only four teams in the field of 16 were able to complete the second round, which was suspended at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday due to darkness at the Pfau Course. With anywhere from 5-7 holes to play for each Spartan golfer to complete round two, MSU will be in fourth place when play resumes at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday.
Valery Plata led the field after round one with a 3-under-par 69. She made the turn at even-par, then picked up three birdies on the back nine to become the only player to shoot in the 60s in the opening round.
Plata is 1-over-par with seven holes to go in round two when play resumes on Sunday.
Paz Marfa Sans shot a 1-over-par 73 in round one, good for 13th place. With five holes to go in round two, she is 1-under-par.
Haylin Harris carded a 2-over-par 74 in round one, which put her in a tie for 23rd place. She has six holes to go in round two.
Valentina Rossi turned in a 4-over-par 76 to start the day, but with five holes to go in round two, she's even-par.
Leila Raines shot a 5-over-par 77 in the opening round and Yurika Tanida carded a 4-over-par 76. Both players have six holes to play in round two.
The Indiana Invitational is a play six, count five format and features all 14 Big Ten programs, serving as a preview for next weekend's conference championships.
Sunday's final round will begin following the conclusion of the second round with tee times off the first and 10th holes.
