GAME CAPSULE
Â
Michigan State dropped the opening game of its four-game series at Indiana on Friday, falling to the Hoosiers, 1-0.Â
Â
Spartan freshman Ashley Miller returned to her home state and faced off with fifth-year senior Emily Goodin, and the limited fans on hand were treated to a pitcher's duel. Miller worked out of a pair of jams with at least two runners in scoring position (including getting a ground-ball out with the bases loaded in the fifth). Goodin limited the Spartans to just two base hits on the day, both to Jenae Wash.
Â
Â
The Hoosiers (17-16) scored their lone run on back-to-back extra-base hits in the third inning, as Gabbi Jenkins and Grayson Radcliffe manufactured the run for IU with a double and a triple. Miller stranded six IU runners, while MSU left five on base. Goodin earned the win with the complete game, striking out four.Â
Â
Â
Michigan State (9-17) and Indiana play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 12 noon.Â

PLAYER HIGHS
- Ashley Miller went six innings in the complete-game effort. She struck out three and scattered four base hits.
- Jenae Wash had both of MSU's base hits, including a double.
STATS AND STORYLINES
- Back-to-back extra-base hits  by Gabbi Jenkins (double) and Grayson Radcliffe (triple) plated the first run of the game for IU, but the Hoosiers ran themselves out of the inning after Bella Norton grounded out to short, and Radcliffe was gunned down at the plate trying to put another run on the scoreboard.Â
- Miller got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, when a base hit, error and a walk loaded the bases.Â
- Goodin walked both Caitie Ladd and Alexis Barroso in the top of the sixth with just one out, bringing Jenae Wash to the plate with a pair of base hits under her belt on the day already. Goodin got out of the inning to survive the late attempt at a rally. Â
- Caitie Ladd reached base twice, extending her streak of consecutive games reached out to a season-best six games.Â
- Jenae Wash had her third multiple-hit game of the season.
