MSU Women’s Tennis Has B1G Tournament Run End Against No. 1-Seeded Ohio State

MADISON, Wis. - No. 9-seeded Michigan State women's tennis had its season come to an end against top-seeded Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday in Madison, Wisconsin.
Michigan State had its four-match doubles winning streak halted by the Buckeyes. At the No. 2, Lucia Marzal and Lisa Hofbauer defeated graduate student Samantha Memije and junior Nicole Stephens, 6-2. The doubles point was clinched at the No. 1 spot. The No. 82-ranked team of senior Mary Lewis and junior Maja Pietrowicz fell to No. 50 Isabelle Boulai and Kolie Allen, 6-3, as OSU took the 1-0 lead.
Ohio State continued to remain in control as the match turned to singles. OSU took a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 6 singles when Madeline Atway stopped sophomore Tia Makherjee in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
The Buckeyes earned the win with victories at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Lucia Marzal defeated Pietrowicz at the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-3. The match was clinched on court No. 5 when Stephens fell to Luna Dormet, 6-3, 6-2.
With the loss, Michigan state ends the season with an 7-12 overall record. Ohio State moved on to the semifinals with a 19-3 record.
