Spartans dropped by Nittany Lions in game two of series.
The hot-hitting Nittany Lions bolted out to a 10-0 lead after the first inning, and the final score was 27-4.
Junior catcher Adam Proctor was 2-for-4 with three RBI, including an RBI triple for not only his first three-bagger of the season, but also the first of his Spartan career. Freshman infielder Trent Farquhar was 2-for-5, while senior infielder Andrew Morrow was 1-for-2 with a run score, and both Farquhar and Morrow logged doubles. Seniors Bryce Kelley and Trevor Hopman were 1-for-2, with Hopman scoring a run, while freshman infielder Dillon Kark was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and freshman infielder Brock Vradenburg scored a run after reaching on an error.
On the mound, freshman Nick Powers started but was removed from the game early in the first inning with an injury.
The Spartans got on the board in the top of the seventh when Hopman singled to left field and Kark followed with a single to right. Proctor then drove both Hopman and Kark in with a single to shallow left field.
In the top of the ninth, Morrow led off with a double to left, and Vradenburg followed by reaching on an infielder error. Two batters later, Kark grounded out but drove in Morrow. That brought Proctor to the plate and he smacked a triple off the wall in right to drive in Vradenburg.
Michigan State and Penn State wrap up the three-game weekend series on Sunday, starting at 12 p.m.
