Spartans Sixth After Two Rounds of NCAA Regional Play

SIMPSONVILLE, Kentucky – The Michigan State women's golf team will head into the final round of the NCAA Louisville Regional in sixth place. The Spartans shot a 5-over-par 293 in Tuesday's second round at the University of Louisville Golf Club and are 9-over-par 585 for the tournament. MSU is one shot behind fifth-place Texas and two behind fourth-place Louisville. No. 1 South Carolina and No. 17 Arkansas are tied for second place at 5-over-par 581. No. 8 Florida State leads at 1-over-par 577.

No. 25 UCLA is a shot behind MSU in seventh place at 10-over-par 586, while UCF is 12-over-par 588 and in eighth place.
The top six teams in the regional and top three individuals not from one of the qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
A trio of Spartans – Yurika Tanida, Valery Plata and Leila Raines – all shot even-par 72s to lead the Spartans on Tuesday. Tanida had 14 pars on Tuesday will go into tomorrow's final round tied for 10th place at 1-under-par 143 (71-72).
Plata shot her second straight even-par 72. She was 1-over-par at the turn, but eight pars and a birdie on the back made her even for the day. Plata is tied for 14th place at even-par 144.
Like Plata, Raines was also consistent on the back, ending the day with nine consecutive pars. Her even-par 72 was five shots better than her opening round score. Raines is tied for 38th place at 5-over-par 149.
Paz Marfa Sans shot a 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 42nd place at 6-over-par 150 (73-77). Valentina Rossi is tied for 68th place at 9-over-par 153 (76-77).
North Florida's Christin Eisenbeiss leads the field at 6-under-par 138 (71-67), one shot ahead of South Carolina's Mathilde Claisse.
The Spartans will be paired with Texas and Louisville in Wednesday's final round, teeing off between 9-9:40 a.m.
