GAME CAPSULE
Â
Zaquai Dumas singled to bring home the winning run in the eighth inning to give Michigan State a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin on Friday night at Secchia Stadium.Â
Â
Â
The string of low-scoring games for MSU (11-20) continued, and the Spartans played their second straight extra-inning contest. Jenae Wash smacked a one-out double to get things going in the frame, and Kennedy Wyllie walked to put a pair on. MSU, which left eight runners on base in the game, went to the freshman Dumas, who singled to center to score Wash and give the Spartans the victory.Â
Â
Â
MSU took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Wyllie in the bottom of the third, and a solo homer by Ally Miklesh tied the game for Wisconsin in the top of the fifth. While MSU left eight on base, the Badgers left six.Â
Â
Â
"That's a big win – we got the pitching, played errorless ball, and got the key hit when we needed it," said head coach Jacquie Joseph. "It was a solid game for us – our offense has been struggling a bit, but our pitching has been good enough. If we had lost this game, I would have been disappointed, but getting that many runners on base was a nice improvement for us."

Michigan State and Wisconsin (15-18) play a Saturday doubleheader, which begins at 1 pm.Â

PLAYER HIGHS
- Kennedy Wyllie had a an RBI base hit and an eighth-inning walk.
- Zaquai Dumas finished 1-for-3 on the day and is the second freshman to deliver a walkoff game-winner this season. Alexis Barroso did so in the finale of the Purdue series.
Â
STATS AND STORYLINES
- MSU played back-to-back extra inning games for the first time since the 2011 season. On March 11 that year, the Spartans fell to Hofstra by a 3-2 score in nine innings before defeating Buffalo 4-3 in eight frames the next day.Â
- Michigan State opened the scoring in the bottom of the third. Caitie Ladd opened the inning with a base hit, moved to second on a sac bunt by Meech, and after Alexis Barroso walked, the two runners advanced on a fielder's choice. Kennedy Wyllie singled up the middle to plate CLadd, but a nice throw by center fielder Ally Miklesh gunned down the pinch runner Brooke Snyder to end the inning.Â
- In the top of the fifth, Ally Miklesh led off with a bomb to right field to tie the game up at 1-1. MSU went to the bullpen for Sarah Ladd. She walked the first batter she faced but then got a K and back-to-back popups to end the inning.
- Badgers looked to be putting something together in the top of the sixth with a two-out walk to Skylar Sirdashney, but Christiana Angelpoulous' offering – which looked to be a single through the right side – hit the runner for the third out of the inning.
- Ashley Miller started the game and went four innings, striking out four and walking one before surrendering a solo homer in the top of the fifth. Sarah Ladd took it the rest of the way, striking out five. Maddie Schwartz picked up the complete game effort for the Badgers, going 7.2 innings, scattering six hits, walking five, and striking out two.Â
