Softball Adds Jessica Mabrey for 2022 Season

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State softball head coach Jacquie Joseph has announced the addition of Jessica Mabrey (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to the Spartan roster for the 2021-22 season.

Maybrey comes to East Lansing from the University of the Pacific, where she was a three-year letterwinner and earned West Coast Conference (WCC) Freshman of the Year honors in 2019. A veteran of 93 games, Maybrey will enroll at Michigan State in time for fall semester 2021 and be a part of the Spartan softball program as it begins preparation for the 2022 season in September.

"We're excited to add Jessica to our roster," said Joseph. "We're excited to have her join what we believe to be an incredibly talented group of newcomers for next season. We have a lot of things to be excited about in terms of our personnel in 2022, and adding a player of her caliber not only adds to our talent level, but gives us some additional experience and veteran leadership. I'm very excited about our team and looking forward to bringing everyone back to campus in August."

MSU has four incoming freshmen, including another Arizona product in Phoenix native Macy Lee (Xavier College Prep), and rising junior Kennedy Wyllie is from Peoria to have three representatives of the state on the 2022 roster. Also in the group of incoming players for the fall are freshmen pitchers Faith Guidry (Baytown, Texas) and Ashley Martin (Scottsburg, Ind.), and infielder Kayleigh Roper (Venice, Fla.).

SOPHOMORE (2020, AT PACIFIC): WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention … Team Captain … Preseason All-WCC … Hit .360 for the Tigers in 17 starts at the plate … Had 18 hits, 11 RBIs and eight runs to go along with three home runs … Recorded a hit in four of her first five appearances … Went 3 for 3 with two RBI and two runs in a 10-2 win over Saint Francis at the DeMarini Invitational at Stanford (2/29) as one of her six multi-hit games on the season.

FRESHMAN (2019, AT PACIFIC):   West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, batting .333 with 13 hits, two home runs, seven RBIs and a team-high .422 on-base percentage and .513 slugging percentage in league contests … Suited up and started in 48 games overall for the Tigers, finishing the year with 36 hits, five home runs, 20 runs scored, 63 total bases and a team-high 25 RBIs … Tallied two RBIs, a double and a run in her career debut against Buffalo (2/8) … Registered eight multi-RBI games, including a grand slam and career-high four RBI against Cal Baptist (2/24) .... Tallied a hit in five out of her last six games to end the season strong, including a season-best three-hit performance in Pacific's 4-3 win at home over LMU (5/4).

CLUB: Played for the Arizona Athletics and coach Keith Householder.

HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year starter at shortstop and catcher for Pinnacle High School, captaining the team as a junior and senior … Batted better than .400 with 108 RBIs and 60 extra-base hits while helping Pinnacle win the 6A State title in 2018 and finish as runners-up in 2016 and 2017 ... Earned Arizona 6A All-Conference Second Team and First Team All-Section honors … Made a diving catch over the outfield wall to steal a home run and made the ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 Play in the state playoffs as a freshman … Won her team's Defensive Player of the Year and Pillar Awards as a senior.
