
MSU Men's Soccer Ends Road Trip at Wisconsin Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer concludes its season-long three-game road trip at Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 17 at 8:30 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
The Spartans snapped a two-game losing streak after a dramatic come-from-behind victory against Notre Dame, 4-3, on Tuesday. MSU is now 3-3-0 this season. Wisconsin has now won two-straight games and holds an overall record of 2-2-1.
BIG TEN DEBUT
MSU opens B1G play at Wisconsin on Sept. 17. The Spartans are 6-1-1 in their last eight Big Ten openers. After taking on Rutgers in the Big Ten opener the last four seasons, MSU will take on the Badgers. In last season's Big Ten opener, MSU fell to the Scarlet Knights, 2-0.
LOCAL KIDS DO GOOD
Tuesday's win against Notre Dame showcased two players from near East Lansing. Seniors Farai Mutatu (Haslett) and Jack Beck (DeWitt) scored all four goals for MSU with Mutatu scoring three and Beck adding one. Beck also added assists on Mutatu's final two goals.
Mutatu's hat trick was the first by a Spartan since Jay Chapman against No. 16 Indiana on Oct. 28, 2012. Senior midfielder Jack Beck also added a goal and two assists in the win.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior forward Farai Mutatu's first career hat trick completed MSU men's soccer's comeback against Notre Dame, Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium. With three second-half goals, the Spartans stopped the Fighting Irish 4-3.
With the win, Michigan State evens its record on the season to 3-3, while Notre Dame stands 1-3-1. MSU is now 4-12-2 against Notre Dame on the road and 9-18-6 against UND. The Spartans are unbeaten in the last four games in South Bend with a 3-0-1 record since 2014.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Senior Farai Mutatu is first in the Big Ten in goals scored with four, as well as standing first in points with nine. Senior Jack Beck is second in the league in assists with four.
LOOKING AT THE BADGERS
Last time out, the Badgers knocked off No. 18/9 Marquette, 1-0, in double overtime on the road on Monday. Wisconsin has now won two-straight games to improve to 2-2-2 this season.
Wisconsin leads the overall series with Michigan State 24-14-6, but the games have been battles. Four of the last five games have gone to overtime. MSU leads the series 2-1-2 in the last five outings, including a 4-1 win in East Lansing last season. In 2019 in Madison, Michael Miller scored the golden goal in overtime to beat Wisconsin, 2-1.
Wisconsin is led in scoring by Jack Finnegan and Moritz Kappelsberger who both have one goal and one assist. Badger goalkeeper Carter Abbott is second in the league in goals against average (0.41) and first in saves (14).
FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET
So far this season, seven different Spartans have found the back of the net. Against Notre Dame, senior midfielder Jack Beck scored his first goal of the year. The Spartans will return home to the friendly confines of DeMartin Stadium for a three-game homestand, beginning against Duquesne on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. MSU will then face No. 11 Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m.

After battling injuries much of the year, he ended the season with one goal.
