
Women's Soccer Falls to Wisconsin

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Wisconsin on Thursday in a rainy night game at DeMartin Stadium.
The Spartans suffered their first loss of the season and stand at 6-1-2. Wisconsin moves to 7-1-2 with the win.
Offense was evenly matched on the scoresheet with both teams credited with 13 shots each. Michigan State held an advantage in shots on goal with seven, while the Badgers had four. However, Wisconsin was able to capitalize with a goal in the 35th minute. Claire Odmark scored when a shot from Izzy Verdugo deflected off of Spartan goalkeeper Lauren Kozal.
Michigan State fought hard on offense in the second half, coming up with nine shots to Wisconsin's five. The Spartans had five shots attempted on target, including two long strikes from Zivana Labovic, but were unable to come up with the equalizer. Ava Cook led the charge with four shots, one landing on target. Lauren DeBeau and Labovic had two shot attempts each.
Reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week Lauren Kozal had three saves in the net for the Green & White, allowing just her fourth goal from an opponent this season. Assisting Kozal in the backfield were Samantha White, Abby Gardiner and Raegan Cox, who each saw at least 80 minutes of field time.
The Spartans are back in action this Sunday, Sept. 26, playing first in a doubleheader at DeMartin Stadium with the men's soccer team. They will face Minnesota at 12 p.m., with an Alumni Day celebration taking place at halftime.
