The Starting XI
The top notes you need to know about Michigan State women's soccer
•  Michigan State is a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship, and hosts second- and third-round games at DeMartin Stadium over the coming week.  Thursday will be a doubleheader - No. 3 seed Colorado takes on No. 6 seed Xavier at 3 pm, followed by the MSU-Wake Forest matchup at 6 pm.  The winners will advance to Sunday's third round at DeMartin (1 pm).  This is the most NCAA games ever hosted by the women's program.
•  Michigan State and Wake Forest will meet for just the second time in program history. The first meeting of the schools took place in September 2017 in East Lansing, resulting in a 4-1 win for the
Demon Deacons..
•  Thursday will be MSU's 23rd game of the year, tied with 2005 and 2022 for the second-most in a single season in program history. (The 2008 team played 24 games.)  Â
• The Spartans have hosted (and won) at least one game in each of the most recent four NCAA Tournaments and are 6-3 all-time under Jeff Hosler. This is the first time in program history that MSU will host the second and third rounds.Â
•  A total of 12 of MSU's 2025 opponents qualified for this year's NCAA Tournament, and eight are still alive in the field. Five of the Spartans' seven non-conference opponents earned 2025 bids, with Notre Dame (1), Colorado (3), and Xavier (6) earning seeds.  Â
•  MSU's unbeaten streak was extended to seven games (6-0-1) with last Friday's result against Milwaukee.  It is the longest active streak in the Big Ten and equals MSU's season-best seven-game streak (4-0-3) to begin Big Ten play.  Â
•  With 52 goals through 22 games, MSU is first in the B1G in both total goals (eighth nationally) and scoring offense (2.36, 16th nationally).  MSU also leads the Big Ten in total points (145), assists (41), points per game (6.59), and goal differential (+29).Â
•  MSU boasts three of the Big Ten's top 10 point scorers:  Kennedy Bell (28, 1st), Kayla Briggs (21, T-6th), and Emerson Sargeant (19, T-9th).  Bell is the Big Ten leader in goals (11, 36th NCAA), and her 28 points lead the B1G and rank 38th nationally.  She now sits in a tie for 11th in single-season goals at MSU, and her 28 points are tied for 13th.
•  Sargeant has three of MSU's eight goals in four postseason games.  A First Team All-Big Ten pick, she has surpassed her career best with eight scores.  Since the Sept. 25 game at Minnesota, she has eight goals and two assists. Nineteen of her 40 career points have come this season.  Â
•  Briggs had two of MSU's four goals in the Big Ten tournament and then the eventual game-winner in the game against Milwaukee to open the NCAA Tourney.  Briggs' 7-7-21 scoring line is good for second on the team; she is a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this season.
•  Noelle Henning has started 18 MSU games in goal and owns a 1.18 GAA and .747 save percentage.  With an 11-3-4 overall record, the three losses are the only games in which she conceded more than one goal.  She has eight games with one goal allowed, seven with none, and three with multiple goals allowed.
