Spartan Soccer Concludes Homestand Monday against Bowling Green

This is the first meeting between the teams since 2018.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer concludes its four-game homestand, facing Bowling Green on Monday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. in a Labor Day battle.
With the convincing 3-1 win over Oakland on Friday, the Spartans improved to 2-1 this season. Offensively, MSU has gotten off to a quick start with six goals in the first three games.
PUTTING IN THE TIME
Nine Spartans have started all three games this season. Seniors Hunter Morse and Luke Morrell, along with junior Nick Stone, have played all 270 minutes this season. Thirteen different players have started at least one game.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Senior midfielder Michael Miller is tied for first in the Big Ten in goals scored with two. Junior forward Gianni Ferri is second in the league in assists with two in three games.
OFF TO A FAST START
Prior to this season, senior midfielder Michael Miller had scored two goals in 56 games at MSU. In the first three games this year, he already scored two, including the game-winning goal against Cleveland State on Aug. 26.
Overall this season, Miller leads the Spartans with two goals and one assist for five points.
LOOKING AT THE FALCONS
Michigan State leads the overall series with Bowling Green 24-16-6. The Spartans also lead at home 13-6-3. MSU has won the last seven games in the series and are unbeaten in the last 17. The battles have be close in nature with six of the last seven wins being decided by one goal. The last time the teams met in 2018 was one of the most one-sided with the Spartans coming out on top 3-0.
Bowling Green is off to a fast start this season with a 2-0-1 record. The Falcons and the Spartans have one common opponent in Cleveland State. MSU opened the season with a 2-1 win against CSU, while BGSU defeated the Vikings 3-0 on Sept. 3.
UP NEXT
After taking on the Falcons, the Spartans then hit the road for three-straight games at Tulsa on Sept. 11 and Notre Dame on Sept. 14. MSU will then open Big Ten action on the road at Wisconsin on Sept. 17.

In his Spartan career, the midfielder has played in 56 games, starting 41. Hunter Morse enters his third year in goal for the Spartans. He has started 27 games in goal for MSU with three career shutouts. Farai Mutatu earned second-team All-Big Ten honors after the spring 2021 season. After battling injuries much of the year, he ended the season with one goal.
