Wrestling Enters National Rankings for First Time This Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. – For the first time since the end of the 2020-21 season, the Michigan State wrestling team is ranked among the Top-25 teams in the nation according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association. MSU debuts in the NWCA poll at No. 21 this week.

Announced Tuesday, the national coaches' poll saw the Spartans receive 62 points, joining 10 other Big Ten schools in the rankings along with non-conference opponent Central Michigan (No. 25).
MSU also appeared in the WIN Magazine and FloWrestling dual rankings on Tuesday, sitting at No. 18 for Flo and No. 20 for WIN. The Spartans hold a No. 23 ranking according to WrestleStat as well.

Despite being previously unranked this year, the Green and White had been receiving votes every week in the coaches poll since the preseason. The team spent all but one week in the NWCA Top-25 last season, coming in at No. 21 in the preseason 2020-21 poll and ending the campaign at No. 23.

Headlined by six returning NCAA qualifiers in its starting lineup, Michigan State (7-1, 2-1 B1G) continues conference action this weekend, hosting No. 14 Rutgers on Friday before welcoming No. 1 Penn State to East Lansing on Sunday.
