MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Michigan State field hockey is set for a midweek non-conference matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Central Michigan. Pass back is set for 3 p.m. at Cristy Creese Field.Â
LAST TIME OUTÂ
The Spartans hit the road for the first time since Oct. 9 after hosting No. 3 Northwestern and Indiana last weekend in East Lansing. Michigan State held a 1-1 tie with Northwestern until the 48th minute on Friday, Oct. 14, eventually falling 3-1. The Spartans bounced back on Sunday, Oct. 16 to top Indiana, 1-0, in overtime for their first conference win of the season. Senior defender Celina Riccardo scored the sudden-death goal for the Spartans against Indiana, while senior forward Hannah Jarvie scored the lone Spartan goal in the loss to Northwestern. Graduate goalkeeper Monique Jardell has played every minute in goal for the Spartans this season, recording her first shutout of the season against Indiana. Â
SPARTAN LEADERSÂ
Senior midfielder Merel Hanssen leads the Spartans in overall scoring, recording 13 points this season (5 g, 3 a). Sophomore midfielder Ellie Rutherford follows with 10 points (4 g, 2 a), adding her second assist of the season on Riccardo's overtime goal against Indiana. Riccardo and teammate Ashley Harlock lead the team in assists with six each. Rutherford, Jarvie, Emma O'Neill, Lulu Fulton and Isa van der Weij have each recorded four goals this season. Georgia Davies and Ellie Wheatley both post five assists. Â
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGANÂ
The Chippewas post a 2-13 record this season, most recently snapping a 13-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over Lindenwood on Oct. 16. Midfielder Kate Biglin leads Central Michigan in scoring with 17 points, recording six goals and five assists this season. Senior midfielder Alice O'Hagan also posts six goals, and freshman forward Amelia Lane leads the team in assists with six. Three different goalkeepers -Â Coletta Beeler, Maja Halasz and Katie Maxim - have made starts for the Chippewas this season. Halasz leads the trio in save percentage at .700.Â
The Chippewas are led by first-year head coach Jennifer Johnstone, who most recently served as a volunteer assistant at Michigan State for five years. Â
Michigan State and Central Michigan last played on Sept. 19, 2021, with MSU claiming a 6-0 win. The Spartans lead the all-time series, 48-15-4. Â

Michigan State returns to Ralph Young Field to host Miami on Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon. The game will serve as the team's senior day, where Spartan seniors Jade Arundell, Monique Jardell, Isa van der Weij, Georgia Davies, Devin Reilly and Valerie Radvany will be recognized on-field before the game.
