EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer completes its two-game road trip, traveling to No. 13 Ohio State on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Kickoff time is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Tyler Terens and Tim Lenahan will be on the call for BTN.
The Spartans are 6-6-2 overall this season and 3-2-1 in Big Ten action. Michigan State is coming off a tough 1-0 loss No. 8 Maryland on Oct. 21. Ohio State stands 8-1-4 overall and 3-1-2 in league action. Last time out, the Buckeyes tied Penn State 1-1.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST OHIO STATE
Michigan State holds a 29-23-3 series lead over Ohio State. The Buckeyes stand 11-8-1 against the Spartans in Columbus, while MSU leads the series 14-9-2 in East Lansing.
Michigan State has won four of the last five meetings, including two straight. Last season, the Green and White defeated the Scarlet and Gray, 1-0, in East Lansing. Vedad Kovac scored the only goal of the match, while Lance McGrane earned the shutout in goal.
LOOKING AT THE BUCKEYES
The Buckeyes are tied for third in the Big Ten standings with 11 points, which puts them tied with Rutgers. OSU's Laurence Wooton is tied for ninth in the league in goals scored with four. The Buckeyes' goalkeeper Keagan McLaughlin has been dominating in goal, allowing only eight goals this season for a 0.80 goals against average.
Ohio State is having a stellar 2022 season, holding the record for fewest losses over the first 14 games of the season after a 1-1 tie at Penn State. The 2022 squad also owns the top win percentage after 14 games in program history.
OSU is also tough to beat at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, entering the final home game of the regular season undefeated with a 6-0-2 record.
NEW LOOK SPARTANS
Michigan State's rookies have had solid campaigns. Transfers Elijah Howe and Owen Finnerty have been solid fixtures in the Spartan offense starting 13 and 14 games, respectively.
Freshmen Jack Guggemos, Jake Spadafora and Jeremy Sharp have all started at least two games this season. Freshman Jonathan Stout has come on strong of late with three goal and four assists for a total of 10 points. Stout scored a goal against Michigan on Sept. 27 and scored two goals against Rutgers on Oct. 16. Guggemos is fifth on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points.

Top Drawer Soccer announced its Freshman Top 100 list last week. Michigan State freshmen Jake Spadafora and Jonathan Stout both made appearances on the list. Spadafora was ranked No. 37, while Stout was listed No. 82.

Senior midfielder Louis Sala stands tied for second in the league in assists with six. He is one helper away from tying senior midfielder Jack Beck's team high of seven assists last season. Freshman forward Jonathan Stout is now fifth in the Big Ten in points per game with 1.11. He has three goals and four assists for 11 points in nine games. Michigan State's six assists against Rutgers on Oct. 16 are tied for the second most in the Big Ten this season.

There are five Spartans who have surpassed 1,000 minutes this season, including senior goalkeeper Owen Finnerty (1,246) and sophomore defender Josh Adam (1,234). Senior Jack Beck (1,162), junior midfielder Jack Zugay (1,121) and senior defender Elijah Howe (1,084) have also passed the 1,000 minute mark.
MAKING A NAME FOR HIMSELF
Freshman forward Jonathan Stout entered last Sunday's game against Rutgers with one goal and two assists on the season, and doubled that total with two goals and two helpers on the day. Stout is now tied for first in points with junior forward Greyson Mercer with 10 each.

MSU had its two-match win streak halted with the loss, sliding to 6-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Big Ten action. The Spartan defense withstood a frenzied Terps attack, and MSU turned UMD away time after time throughout the match. Graduate senior goalkeeper Owen Finnerty made seven saves on the night, and the Michigan State was steady and solid to withstand the Terp pressure.
FINNERTY EARNS B1G HONOR
Senior goalkeeper Owen Finnerty earned the Spartans' first Player of the Week honor of the season after MSU went 2-0-0 on Oct. 3. The goalkeeper registered a pair of clean sheets to lead Michigan State to wins over Michigan and Wisconsin.
In the Battle of the Big Bear Trophy on Sept. 27, Finnerty, a Michigan transfer, earned MSU's first shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the Wolverines. He collected seven saves in the victory. Against Wisconsin on Oct. 2, the Spartans earned a 1-0 win with the senior capturing five saves. He helped MSU to back-to-back shutout wins for the first time since the 2017 season.
PACKING THE HOUSE
Michigan State historically is among the nation's best in packing DeMartin Stadium. This week, MSU is fifth in the nation in attendance, averaging 2,305 fans per game. The Spartans are second in the Big Ten behind Indiana (2,318), who stand fourth in the nation respectively. Maryland is sixth in the country and third in the B1G (2,176).MSU's largest crowd of the season was the 3,047 fans that packed DeMartin to watch MSU beat Michigan on Sept. 27.
