Spartans Close Out Fall Season at The Landfall Tradition

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team closes out the first half of the 2022-23 season this week, playing in The Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C.
The three-day event tees off on Friday, Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m. with 18 holes. The tournament continues on Saturday, Oct. 29 and concludes on Sunday, Oct. 30 with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. The Landfall Tradition will be played on the par-72, 6,150-yard rolling layout along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway near Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina.

Michigan State is coming off a 10th place finish among 14 teams at the Tar Heel Invitational on October 18. The Spartans shot a 30-over par 894 (289-296-309). Fifth year Valery Plata led Michigan State, tying for 16th place at 4-over par 220 (67-75-78). Sophomore Brooke Biermann and junior Valentina Rossi tied for 33rd place at 9-over par 225.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
The Spartans are playing in their fourth event of the season and opened the season with a pair of top-five finishes, first at the Cougar Classic and then at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic. Sophomore Brooke Biermann leads the team with a 72.33 scoring average, with her best finish at tie for 10th place at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic. Fifth year Valery Plata is second on the team with a 73.11 scoring average. The team welcomes junior Valentina Rossi back to the lineup. Rossi missed the Windy City Classic while playing for her native Argentina and helping to lead her team to a gold medal in the South American Games.
SPARTANS AT THE LANDFALL TRADITION
This year will mark the Spartans' 13th consecutive appearance at the Landfall Tradition. Overall, it's MSU's 15th time playing in the tournament, tied for the third-most appearances overall. The Spartans had one of their best finishes in the tournament in 2017, taking third in the rain-shortened, two-round event. MSU holds the tournament record for the lowest team round with a 13-under-par 275 in 2015, while Sarah Burnham's 6-under-par 66 is tied for the lowest individual round and the lowest round by any player on Sunday in the event. A pair of Spartans in Sara Brown (2006) and Burnham (2015) have both claimed medalist honors at the Landfall.
