Michigan State Women Fall to No. 4/5 Iowa State in Phil Knight Invitational

The Spartans will take on No. 18/18 Oregon in the third-place game on Sunday.
PORTLAND, Ore. - Michigan State women's basketball had its six-game winning streak halted against No. 4/5 Iowa State, 80-49, at the Phil Knight Invitational on Thanksgiving afternoon.
With the loss, the Spartans fall to 6-1 this season, while Iowa State improves to 5-0.
Michigan State had two players in double figures led by sophomore guard DeeDee Hagemann, who scored 14 points to go along with three assists. Graduate guard Kamaria McDaniel also added 11 points to along with a team-high six boards.
Iowa State's Stephanie Soares scored 23 points with 11 rebounds and six blocks.
It was a back-and-forth affair early on with MSU jumping out to an early 8-6 lead behind four early points by Hagemann. The Cyclones responded with a 10-0 run to take a 16-8 advantage with 2:24 left in the quarter. Iowa State kept MSU off the scoreboard for nearly four minutes. The Spartans trailed the Cyclones 18-12 after the first quarter.
Iowa State scored the first five points of the second quarter to open up a 23-12 lead. The Spartans shooting woes continued in the second quarter, shooting on eight percents in the period. Michigan State went nearly minutes without a field goal. Hagemann and Elliott led the Spartans with six points each at the half.
In the third period, Hagemann led the way in the period with four points, but MSU couldn't cut down on the lead. The closest the Spartans got the deficit down to 19 points after an Abbey Kimball fast break jump shot with 2:27 left in the quarter.
The Spartans showed resiliency in the fourth quarter with their best offensive output. Graduate forward Stephanie Visscher drained the first trey for MSU, as the Spartans struggled from long range against the Cyclones. MSU cut it to a 16 point, 62-46, game before Iowa State went on a 12-2 run to make it a 75-48 game with 2:29 left in the game.
Michigan State will now face No. 18/18 Oregon on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. (ET).
Michigan State Women's Basketball Post-Game Notes: vs. Iowa State
• Graduate guard Kamaria McDaniel scored 11 points to reach double figures for the fifth time this season. Sophomore guard DeeDee Hagemann led the team with 14 points, which was her third double-figure scoring game this year.
• For the first time this season, the Spartans had a different starting lineup. With sophomore guard Matilda Ekh in Sweden for a Swedish National Team game, MSU's starting five were sophomore guard DeeDee Hagemann, junior guard Gabby Elliott, senior guard Moira Joiner, graduate guard Kamaria McDaniel and senior forward Taiyier Parks. Joiner was making her first start of the season.
• Senior forward Taiyier Parks tied a career high with three blocks. She has tallied three block seven times in her career with the last time occurring against Penn State on Jan. 27, 2022.
• Michigan State shot a season low 28.3 percent from the field (17-for-60) and 11.1 percent from beyond the arc (2-for-18).
