EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State forward Grace VanSlooten was named a College Sports Communicators third-team Academic All-American on Wednesday.
VanSlooten, a native of Toledo, Ohio, became the first Spartan to capture Academic All-American honors since Liz Shimek during the 2005-06 season. She is only the seventh different MSU player to earn the honor.
She also earned her CSC Academic All-District honors twice during her two years at Michigan State, as well as being named a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She is pursuing a degree in communication.
VanSlooten earned All-Big Ten honors in both seasons she was at Michigan State after two seasons at Oregon. She capped off a stellar senior season, leading the Spartans in scoring, averaging 15.1 ppg. She led MSU to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.
She finished this season 11th in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.500) and steals (1.9 spg). VanSlooten was also 16th in the league in scoring (15.1 ppg).
