Cal Haladay Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State redshirt sophomore linebacker Cal Haladay has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Haladay had a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss (10 yards) and finished with nine total stops in MSU's 23-15 win at No. 16 Illinois last Saturday in Memorial Stadium.
The Spartans held the Illini, which entered the game with the No. 3 rushing offense in the Big Ten (197.6 ypg), to 153 yards rushing, the second fewest by Illinois this season. MSU's defense had five fourth-down stops in the game, including two by Haladay in the second half.
Haladay leads the team and ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 80 tackles (8.9 per game).
MSU (4-5, 2-4 Big Ten) returns to action Saturday, Nov. 12 against Rutgers (4-5, 1-5 Big Ten) at noon in Spartan Stadium. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
