John Petruno, Noah Sage, Jalen Smith and Morgan Beadlescomb combined to post a 9:26.75 time
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In the final event for the Michigan State track and field program before the Big Ten Indoor Championships, the men's distance medley relay team went out and broke the school record at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday.
The quartet of John Petruno, Noah Sage, Jalen Smith and Morgan Beadlescomb combined to post a 9:26.75 time, breaking the previous MSU indoor record of 9:40.00 that was set last season by Petruno, Smith, Beadlescomb and Kendel Hammock. The time put them eighth in a race where the top-7 teams all went under the previous all-time collegiate best in the men's distance medley relay on an oversized track, a 9:25.80 time by Notre Dame in 2020.
Michigan State now heads to Geneva, Ohio for the BIG Indoor Championships, held at the SPIRE Institute from Feb. 25-26.
