
Women’s Golf in Fifth Place After Second Round of NCAA Stillwater Regional

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 4-over par 292 in the second round and sits in fifth place among 12 teams heading into the final round of the NCAA Stillwater Regional, being played at Karsten Creek Golf Club (par-72, 6,303 yards) in Oklahoma.
The Stillwater Regional concludes on Wednesday with 18 holes. The top four teams and top two individuals (not on an advancing team) qualify for the championships, which will be held for the second-straight year at Grayhawk Golf Club (Raptor Course) in Scottsdale, Ariz., from May 20-25.
Second Round Results
The Spartans are in fifth place at 19-over par 595 after posting the 4-over par 292 on Tuesday, tied for the second-lowest team round in the field through two rounds.
Baylor fired a 3-under par 285 and leads the field at 1-over par 577, but four teams – Arizona State, Clemson, Oklahoma State and MSU – are within five shots for the final three spots.
Arizona State is second at 14-over par 590, with Clemson third at 17-over par 593, Oklahoma State fourth at 18-over par 594 and the Spartans one shot behind.
MSU went into the second round seven shots out of fourth place, but closed the gap with a strong round on Tuesday, including playing the front nine in 1-under par.
Sophomore Valentina Rossi leads the Spartans, standing in a tie for ninth place overall at 3-over par 147. She carded an even-par 72 on Tuesday, with three birdies and 12 pars.
Classmate Leila Raines posted a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday – with four birdies and 10 pars – and is tied for 13th place at 4-over par 148.
Freshman Brooke Biermann had the best round of the day for the Spartans with a 1-under par 71 that included playing the front nine in 3-under par with a trio of birdies. She finished the day with four bridies and 11 pars. Biermann is tied for 18th place at 5-over par 149.
Senior Valery Plata shot a 4-over par 76 and is tied for 24th place at 7-over par 151. Plata finished the front nine at 3-over par but had three birdies on the back, including one on 18, to finish her round.
Junior Nina Rissi, who did not play in Monday's first round, posted a 9-over par 81, including one birdie and 10 pars.
The Spartans will tee off on Wednesday morning between 9 a.m. and 9:44 a.m. (ET), playing with Oklahoma State and Auburn.
