EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State head women's basketball coach, Suzy Merchant announced the addition of Kamaria McDaniel to the 2022-23 roster.
She comes to MSU as a graduate transfer after two seasons at Baylor and two at Penn State. A native Inkster, Michigan, McDaniel missed the complete 2020-21 season due to injury, playing in 10 games at Baylor last season.
In 2019-20 at Penn State, the 5-10 guard had a standout season, finishing second in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 19.8 points per game. She finished the season 13th in the nation in scoring that year. McDaniel also captured first-team All-Big Ten honors as a junior. She excels in the classroom as well, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors twice.
"We are thrilled to have Kamaria join the Spartan Family," Merchant said. "Her accolades and experience speak for themselves; as she was one of the leading scorers in the nation. She has proven she can create her own shot at all three levels; 3-point line, mid-range and rim attack. Coupled with the fact that Kamaria is one of the best competitors, her work ethic and commitment to her craft is what truly separates her and will bring experience and leadership to our team.
"Additionally, her vision for becoming the best version of herself both on and off the court is inspiring. She exudes enthusiasm and energy in everything she does. Her strength and determination comes from her incredible parents, Carlyse and Clint McDaniel. Spartan Nation, help us welcome and embrace the McDaniel family to East Lansing."
McDaniel also had a distinguished high school career at Robichaud High School, as she was selected first-team All-State Class B and a finalist for Michigan Ms. Basketball. She was also named first-team all-region, first-team all-district and first-team All-Western Wayne Athletic Conference.
As the latest Spartan women's basketball addition, McDaniel joins freshmen Theryn Hallock (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Abbey Kimball (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and transfers Gabby Elliott (Detroit, Michigan) and Stephanie Visscher (Lulea, Sweden).
