Karsen Dorwart Joins Spartan Hockey for Fall '22

East Lansing, Mich. -- Spartan coach Adam Nightingale has added forward Karsen Dorwart (Sherwood, Oregon) to the Spartan roster for the 2022-23 season.

The 6-1, 191-pound Dorwart adds some size on the front lines for the Spartans. Dorwart comes to East Lansing after a season with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede.

"Karsen is a strong centerman who plays a 200' game," noted the Spartan coach. "His game really evolved last season and we look forward to helping him continue his development path."

Dorwart is the 10^thnewcomer to Spartan roster for next season, a group comprised of five freshmen, four graduate transfers, and one transfer student-athlete. The group includes six forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender.

Prior to College: Spent the 2021-22 season with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL, where he was a teammate of fellow freshman Daniel Russell … Played 61 games in Sioux Falls, with nine goals and 25 points, including a pair of shorthanded markers … Prior to Sioux Falls, spent two years at Hotchkiss, (2019-21), helping the squad to a 19-6-3 record in 2019-20 where he had 12 goals and 14 assists in 26 games for the Bearcats and earned an All-New England Rookie Team nod … Did not have a hockey season at Hotchkiss in 2020-21 … Product of the San Jose Junior Sharks program (2017-19) … Participated in USA Hockey national champ in both 2018 and 2019.

Personal: Son of Gregg and Janelle Dorwart … Has one sister, Kalli … Graduated from University of Nebraska High School in Lincoln … Was a National Junior Honor Society member and won the David Lord Fitzgerald Prize at Hotchkiss for "positive spirit, strength of character, and compassion for others" … Describes himself as 'sneaky good at chess' and was invited to the state tournament as a youth … Plans to major in finance.
