EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State head softball coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley announced the addition of left-handed pitcher Madison Taylor on Monday. Taylor joins the Spartans after playing one season at Ball State.
"Maddie is a hard-throwing, ultra-competitive lefty pitcher," McDonald-Kelley said. "She will be a great compliment to our other pitchers on staff. I'm excited to watch her develop and expect that she will do great things as a Spartan!"
Taylor is a native of Fortville, Ind. and made 20 appearances in the circle, including five starts, for Ball State last season.
Prior to arriving at Ball State, Taylor was a four-year high school letterwinner playing at Noblesville and Mt. Vernon High School. Taylor was an All-State Honorable Mention and First Team All-Conference as a freshman at Noblesville after leading the team to regional and section championships.
As a senior at Mt. Vernon, Taylor was named to the 2021 Daily Reporter All-County Softball Team as well as Player of the Year after aiding the Marauders to the Class 4A semistate title game. Taylor and the Marauders finished the 2021 season with a record of 23-6 while winning a sectional title and the program's first regional title since 2002. Taylor's senior season was the best of her career as she went 12-3 in the circle with a 0.65 ERA and 152 strikeouts in 96.2 innings of work.
Taylor is the second player to sign with the Spartans following the hire of Sharonda McDonald-Kelley, joining incoming freshman Gabbie Evans.
