Softball Welcomes Home AJ Militello

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State head softball coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley announced the addition of Howell, Michigan native AJ Militello on Tuesday. Militello joins the Spartans after playing the past three seasons at the University of Utah.
"AJ is an athlete who work ethic is unmatched," McDonald-Kelley said. "She will bring power, speed and experience to the squad. I believe AJ is a player that can make an immediate impact on our program."
Militello made 37 appearances for the Utes last season, utilizing her speed on the base paths to swipe 10 bags on 12 attempts. Twice named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll, Militello hit .273 during the 2021 season, ranking second on the team with five home runs in 43 games played.
Playing for Howell High School, Militello racked up countless accolades earning All-State, All-Region, All-Conference and All-District honors for the Highlanders. In 2019, she was named the Livingston County Player of the Year. Militello finished her interscholastic career with 210 hits, 32 home runs, 186 RBI and 202 runs scored. Her 17 home runs in 2019 tied the single-season county record as she hit .525 with 60 RBI and 75 runs scored as a senior. In addition to her time at Howell, Militello played club for Turnin2 based out of Brighton, Michigan.
Militello is the fourth addition to the Spartan roster under McDonald-Kelley, joining transfers Anna Fox and Madison Taylor, and incoming freshman Gabbie Evans. Those four will join the initial signing class of Kayla Bane, Britain Beshears, Hailey Bila, Mandy Esman, Sydney Doloszycki and Bibianna Rodriguez to form a class of 10 newcomers for the 2023 season.
