East Lansing -- Fifth year senior Nicolas Müller has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, as announced by the B1G office on Tuesday.
The senior centerman led the Spartan offense with four points last weekend, scoring the first goal of the season for the squad and assisting on three others over the two games. Michigan State defeated Lake State, 5-2 and 4-2, in the season-opening series for both squads. MSU has started the season with two wins for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign, and moved up to No. 8 in both national polls.
Müller ranks second among early Big Ten scoring leaders with four points, and is also second in assists (3).
Müller enjoyed a breakout season a year ago with 34 points (nine goals, 25 assists). He posted single-season bests in all three offensive categories - he entered his senior campaign with 15 assists and six goals over his first three collegiate seasons, and more than doubled that point total in his senior campaign. It was also the most points by a Spartan player since the 2018-19 season, when Taro Hirose (15-35-50) and Patrick Khodorenko (18-19-37) sat atop the scoresheet. His 25 assists was the most by a Spartan since Hirose's 35 that season.
The Spartans are back on the ice this weekend when they travel to Colorado Springs to play a two-game series with Air Force.
