East Lansing, Mich. -- Sophomore forward Joey Larson (Brighton, Mich.) has earned Big Ten Second Star of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. Â
Larson recorded a hat trick in MSU's most recent game against Air Force and had a five-point weekend in Colorado Springs (3-2-5). Â It was the sophomore's first career hat trick, and he also established a new career best for points in a game (4). Â Larson is one of three players in the country with a hat trick this season and the only one in the Big Ten.
Larson and linemate Red Savage share the team lead in all three offensive categories with three goals, four assists and seven points through four games. Â They are tied for second in the Big Ten in all three categories, One of Larson's three goals has come on the power play. Â
The line of Savage centering Larson and freshman Gavin O'Connell is MSU's top-scoring trio.  They posted six goals and five assists last week at Air Force and have a combined 17 points on the year (8-9-17).
