Three Spartans Earn Big Ten Selections

EAST LANSING, Mich.— Michigan State's field hockey: Ellie Rutherford, Celina Riccardo, and Ashley Harlock earned All-Big Ten Team honors, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Three Spartans selected to the All-Big Ten team are the most selections since 2016 (Kendal Anderson, Simone Vagoni, and Kristin Matula).
Rutherford earned second team All-Big Ten honors. The junior midfielder appeared and started all 16 games for MSU. She led the Spartans in total points (9), and goals scored (4). The Edinburgh, Scotland native scored two of her four goals in back-to-back games- in the 1-0 victory over Indiana and 3-0 victory against Central Michigan. Rutherford was on the Preseason Big Ten Players to Watch list prior to the season.
Riccardo (Downingtown, Pa.) was selected second team All-Big Ten and was another MSU Preseason Big Ten Player to Watch. She scored in back-to-back games against Rutgers and Miami (OH) and registered one assist against Ball State for five total points during the 2023 season. Riccardo ended her remarkable career starting 70 consecutive games, with 82 career starts in 83 career games. The senior capped off her career with her first ever All-Big Ten selection.
Harlock (Livonia, Mich.) received the Big Ten Sportsmanship award. The senior captain started all 16 games for the Green and White and had one assist against Central Michigan. In October, Harlock was named one of six Michigan State University students, along with two alumni, who were nominated for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and most prestigious international scholarship program, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.
