On how pleased she was with her team in the second quarter…
That was the turning point in the game, a lot of credit to Wright State, they run good actions and if you make a mistake, they will take advantage of that, they shot the ball well, and took advantage of early mistakes we were making defensively. Also, with the way we play if you do it right and stick with it, that can happen. You can wear them out and get them out of system and I thought, we played at a higher level over the whole game and on every possession. Defensively, we cranked it up and that really helped open the game.
On DeeDee Hagemann's effort to go after every ball…
To be a really good player you must be a two-way player. You must be able to play both ends of the court and with our pressure I thought she was doing a good job disrupting the ball and speeding up the ball and getting the ball to parts of the court, that helped us. Offensively, she is creative and smart, so I think she's able to get into spaces and we're able to take advantage of that.
On what it's like to have Gabby Elliott on offensive when they are down a couple of points…
She comes in and gives a huge boost to the game. She does that in a lot of ways and defensively she can guard so many spots, offensively she has a knack for finishing, getting to the free throw line, and attacking. Tonight, I think she had seven rebounds, and she was able to convert our defense into offense, she did a great job.
Â
On Gabby Elliott's progress she's made from the injury she had last year…
She's amazing, to come back the way she came back, be at the level she's at, and being fearless while she's playing, we just feel proud of her. There's a lot of work to come back and those injuries are hard. They're tiring and lonely, it feels like a long time and so for her to be back at the level she is at, there's a lot of credit to her and the work she's put in.
Â
On what she tells the team defensively before heading into the 2nd quarter…
We needed to guard better. A big part that we talked about was getting pressure, they run so much through their five in the middle of the court and we were letting them catch it wherever they wanted. I thought when we were able to pressure that spot better that it really helped us defensively. A lot of credit to coach Hoffman, the head coach at Wright State. I've known her for a long time. We used to coach against each other at Division II level as well, her teams are always hard to guard. They take advantage of mistakes that their defense makes. We'll learn a lot from that because tonight when we did make a mistake, they found a way to take advantage of that. But I loved the way we cranked it up, I thought when we did that it got them out of their system.
