Â
On how the opening half went…
Really proud of the first half defensive effort. We are beginning to see glimpses of being able to play and pressure and be disruptive.
Â
On MSU's defensive pressure, especially in the full court press…
There are two pieces. One is a system and style that is comfortable. One of the biggest strengths of our team is our speed. I think we have really good speed across the board and we need to find better ways to use that. Being able to full court pressure would achieve that.
Â
On finishing the games all the way through and halftime talk…
Fourth quarter defense was really relaxed and there was a mix of giving up points and fouling too much; we must be able to sustain. The only way we can do what we do well, is to engage with each other. It is a work in progress and there is a way to play every possession correctly.
Â
On what Mo brought to tonight's game…
She's a great two-way player, with a lot of experience. She shows up the same way every day. You can count on her to work hard, and you can see that during the games. You can see her experience on this team and at this level.
Â
On Tori Ozment and DeeDee's injury…
We were glad to have DeeDee back at half. We are expecting Tori back really soon. She has been working through some things but is getting on the good side of it.
Â
On players really getting into things…
When we are at our best for sure. We celebrate and it's disruptive. There is a joy to it and a joy in everyone playing hard and together. Joy and celebrating are such an important part of the game. The best players and teams have a great joy through their program, and they know what they are about. Enjoyment is a big piece of who we are.
Â
On finally coaching a game and the emotions that went along with it…
I was thinking of how my family came tonight. I have a ten-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter, and I was remembering when I was little, I was in those seats. You don't know where life is going to take you. To see the cycle of life is really cool. A game is a game. A team is a team. It feels like another game. I feel all the things and it's familiar. It is such a cool opportunity to coach at the Breslin and it's an honor. I am very grateful for it.
Â
On the season opener and what she's looking forward to…
We will watch film and get a lot of feedback. I think finishing layups will be a huge thing. We left a lot of points out there and we need to work on finishing in the paint. Also just playing 40 minutes with the same level of consistency. I love our start. I think tonight we saw the beginning of who we are and what we need to do to become us.
