Hoggard, Walker Selected to Watch List for Naismith Trophy

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball guards A.J. Hoggard and Tyson Walker were among a group of 50 players nationally selected to the Watch List for the Naismith Trophy Division I Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Monday afternoon.
Walker, a preseason All-Big Ten selection, was named to the Watch List for the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I Player of the Year last week and has been selected as a preseason All-American candidate by FOX Sports and The Almanac. A Second Team All-Big Ten Conference selection by the coaches and the media in 2022-23, he led the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game, adding 2.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Hoggard, a preseason All-Big Ten selection, was third on the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game and led the team, and ranked third in the Big Ten, with 5.9 assists per game. An honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and a third team honoree from the media last year, Hoggard ranked No. 9 in the country in total assists (201) and was 12th in the country in assists per game. In addition, he was No. 6 in the country in assist rate (38.7 percent), per KenPom.com. Hoggard led the team, and ranked sixth in the Big Ten (No. 30 nationally), in free throw percentage, connecting on 80.4 percent of his shots. He hit a team-high 127 free throws in a team-high 158 attempts.
Michigan State opens the 2023-24 season Monday night (Nov. 6), hosting James Madison at the Breslin Center. The game tips off at 8:37 p.m. on BTN, with Kevin Kugler and Stephen Bardo calling all of the action.
