Opening statement…
"Happy to get our first win. I think the beginning of the game looked like our first game. I thought we did a lot of good things and thought by the end of the game we'd have a lot of good film to look at things to get better. There's some things we'll leave here today feeling rhythmic about, a lot of good film for us to take to improve. That is kinda what the beginning of the season is. Our hope and our plan is that we can take a lot of this feedback and figure out how to keep getting better."Â
On the contributions today that lead to the win…
"DeeDee played really well. She got going and she shot it really well. That was a big second and third quarter for us, separators in the game. Abby and Mo also shot the ball really well for us. They were doing a little bit of a tandem zone, doing a good job skipping and passing out of it and knocking down shots. Isaline came in and gave us really good minutes. I thought we had a lot of different moments out of different kids. Our ability to make open threes, especially in the second and third quarter, I thought really separated the game."
On the ball movement today…
"Well I love that number. During the game I felt like we could've passed it still way more. I still felt like at times we didn't see the open player, didn't see that help converge. I think it's a good start, but I also think that moving forward we can share it and move it better.
On the scoring run after the first quarter…
"It was as simple as getting stops. I thought we just didn't get that many stops early. The game was slow. We fouled and missed some threes. I thought we settled in at the half. They were spacing out, but I thought we just did a much better job and not getting beat and making shots."
On the tensions in the first quarter…
"I was telling them to settle down. I felt that we were trying to make home run plays. We were lunging for steals, trying to make big plays. Even on offense I thought instead of making a simple play or easy play, we were trying to make a bunch of singles. I thought we settled in. A big part of it was when we settled in defensively."
