
#5 Clemson Defeats Spartans in Tampa Finale

TAMPA, Fla. – Michigan State softball was defeated by #5/5 Clemson, 8-0, on Sunday, Feb. 26 on the final day of the USF Invitational.
The Spartans fall to 6-8 on the season as the team prepares to play nine games in nine days over Spring Break.
Spartan Stats
Junior Ashley Miller made the start for Michigan State pitching 3.1 innings and allowing six earned runs. Miller struck out four batters in the effort to move into a tie for third all-time for career strikeouts at Michigan State with 408. Sophomore Madison Taylor came on in relief of Miller pitching .2 innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs.
Fifth-year Jessica Mabrey and senior Kennedy Wyllie each tallied hits for the Spartans. Mabrey doubled to right in continuing her hot weekend at the plate in which she hit .556 in nine at-bats with five walks.
Scoring Summary
Clemson's offense struck first after a lead-off double in the second inning came around to score.
The Tiger offense started to get going in the third after three straight singles to open the inning set up a sac fly to right. A passed ball and an error allowed a second runner to score for Clemson as the Tigers took a 3-0 lead over the Spartans in the third.
Clemson poured in five runs on four hits and four walks in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead.

Michigan State starts its Spring Break trip next weekend in Arizona at the ASU/GCU Classic hosted by Arizona State and Grand Canyon. The Spartans will take on No. 8-ranked Washington, Grand Canyon, Houston, Arizona State and Boise State over the weekend of March 3-5. Games against Washington and Grand Canyon will be played in Phoenix while games against Houston, Arizona State and Boise State will be played in Tempe.
