Guidry Spins Complete Game Shutout in Home Opener

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State softball sophomore Faith Guidry spun a two-hit complete game shutout in the circle on Tuesday night as the Spartans defeated intrastate rival Central Michigan by a final score of 3-0 from Secchia Stadium.
MSU improved to 9-12 overall this season and are now 1-0 within the confines of Old College Field.
Spartan Stats
For Guidry it's her first career complete game shutout as she struck out four Chippewa batters and walked three, allowing just two hits. Guidry did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, carrying a no-hitter through five. It's the second-straight complete game for Guidry who tossed seven innings against Yale over spring break.
Five different Spartans recorded hits on Tuesday with a pair reaching base twice. Junior AJ Militello homered for the Spartans in the fourth inning, her second of the season. Fifth Year Jessica Mabrey and junior Collette Allen each had a hit and a walk, with Allen doubling in the fifth. Junior Jenae Wash and senior Anna Fox each singled for the Spartans. Allen, Militello and junior Alexis Barroso each drove in runners for MSU.
Scoring Summary
Barroso opened the scoring for the Spartans with a sacrifice fly in the third inning that scored Fox from third. Fox reached on a slap single to left before a Mabrey single and a walk by sophomore Macy Lee walked.
Militello increased the Spartan advantage in the fourth when her second home run of the season squeaked past the left field foul pole.
Allen provided an insurance run in the fifth when her double to the left field wall scored Mabrey from second. Mabrey walked to lead-off the inning before stealing second base, her third base-path robbery of the season.

Michigan State will open Big Ten play this weekend when it welcomes the Wisconsin Badgers to East Lansing. The Spartans will take on Wisconsin for a three-game series starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24.
