EAST LANSING, Mich. – Former Michigan State All-Americans Bryce Baringer and Jayden Reed participated in the NFL Scouting Combine over the weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Although he was battling an eye infection, Reed still performed at a high level on Saturday, running the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds and the 20-yard shuttle in 4.29 seconds, while leaping 33.5 inches in the vertical jump and 10'1" in the broad jump. He also displayed his versatility and athleticism in the on-field drills.
Baringer was part of the specialists group that tested on Friday.
Both Baringer and Reed have been impressing NFL scouts during the path to the 2023 NFL Draft, as they not only earned NFL Combine invites, but also were named the Senior Bowl National team practice players of the week at their respective positions (special teams and wide receiver) while competing in Mobile, Alabama, last month.
Baringer, the 2022 Big Ten Punter of the Year, earned consensus first-team All-America honors after leading the FBS in punting with his school-record average (49.0), while Reed was named a first-team All-American in 2021 by the American Football Coaches Association as an all-purpose player and ranks among MSU's all-time leaders in receptions (sixth with 147), touchdown catches (tied for seventh with 18) and receiving yards (12th with 2,069).
The NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp) is organized and operated by National Football Scouting, Inc. More than 600 NFL personnel, including head coaches, general managers, scouts and medical staff representing all 32 teams, are at the Scouting Combine to evaluate a total of 319 of the nation's top college players eligible for the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft through on-field drills, physical testing, psychological exams, as well as formal and informal interviews.
The next step toward the 2023 NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 27-29 in Kansas City, Missouri, is Michigan State's Pro Day on March 15 in East Lansing.
