Fish Earns At-Large Bid to 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships at 165 Pounds

Four Wrestlers to Represent MSU in Tulsa
INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I Wrestling Selection Committee announced the at-large bids for the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday afternoon. Michigan State's 165-pound starter, Caleb Fish, garnered a placement in the 2023 Championships, which are set to begin on Thursday, March 16.

Fish owns the most individual victories on the Spartan roster this season with 26, boasting a 26-9 overall record coupled with a 15-5 ledger in tournament action. One of the highest ranked individuals in the nation at his weight class, the Eaton Rapids, Michigan, native Spartan boasts eight pins, a technical fall and pair of major decisions this year. Fish entered the Big Ten Championships as the No. 6 pre-seed at 165 pounds, and maintains the nation's No. 20 ranking.

Michigan State will feature a quartet of national qualifiers at this season's NCAA Championships, including Fish, junior 157-pounder Chase Saldate, redshirt senior 184-pounder Layne Malczewski and graduate 197-pounder Cameron Caffey. MSU's three automatic qualifiers punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships with podium finishes at the 2023 Big Ten Championships last weekend.

In addition to the other 46 at-large participants, Fish joins the 283 student-athletes that qualified through their conference tournament finishes over the weekend. The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, ratings percentage index, coaches ranking and conference tournament finish.
