Spartan Throwers End Three-Day Competition in Sunshine State

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Michigan State track & field's throwing squads finished its three-day competition in California at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track.
DAY 1
After setting a personal best the day before in the hammer throw, junior Joshua DeVries returned to the throwing circle Friday morning to finish 14th in the event with a mark of 62.52m.
Sophomore Valadian Pallett competed down the road in the women's discus throw at the Brian Clay Invitational. Pallett set a personal best of 48.69m to earn runner-up honors in the event, just one day after setting a then-personal best of 47.75m at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.
DAY 2
The Spartans ended the weekend with the men's and women's discus throw and shot put on Saturday. Freshman Colby Morlock placed 12th with a mark of 17.38m in the shot put and returned later in the day with a 49.06m mark in the discus.
On the women's side, sophomore Opal Jackson recorded a toss of 14.23m in the shot put for 20th place. In her third discus competition in as many days, Pallett placed 20th with a mark of 46.83m. Jackson finished 33rd with a mark of 43.50m.
MSU returns to action on April 21 and 22 at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana.
