Softball Falls to Maryland in Series Finale

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Michigan State softball was defeated by Maryland on Sunday, April 2 by a final score of 8-0.
Maryland swept the series with the win as Michigan State falls to 10-17 overall and 1-5 in Big Ten action.
Spartan Stats
Sophomore Faith Guidry (2-5) earned the start for Michigan State pitching 2.2 innings allowing five earned runs (one unearned) on nine hits. Guidry struck out a pair. Junior Ashley Miller relieved Guidry pitching 3.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks. Miller struck out one in her appearance.
Redshirt junior Jenae Wash had MSU's lone hit, with sophomore Macy Lee and senior Anna Fox each drawing walks.
Scoring Summary
After a scoreless first the Terrapins added four runs to their tally in the second inning to take an early lead. Four RBI singles paces the Maryland offense in the second.
Maryland extended its lead to 6-0 in the third after a pair of errors turned a single into run scoring playing. A two-out triple later in the inning cleared the bases for the Terps.
The Terrapins added single runs in the fifth and sixth to win by run rule, 8-0.

Michigan State will play a total of five games at Secchia Stadium (weather permitting) next week. The Spartans open the week with a pair of mid-week contests before a three-game B1G series over the weekend.
Oakland comes to town for a non-conference match up on Tuesday night. MSU is 25-7 all-time against Oakland and went 1-1 against the Golden Grizzlies last season. Michigan State returns to the field on Wednesday night for the first game of a home and home series against Michigan.
Iowa will play at Secchia Stadium for the first time since 2012 when they arrive to play the Spartans next weekend. Michigan State has not played a traditional B1G series against the Hawkeyes since 2014 in Iowa City.
