Spartans Complete Races at OSU Invite

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State ran up against tough competition on Saturday morning in Columbus, falling to both No. 12 Ohio State and No.20 Indiana in a series of races.

The Buckeyes won six of eight races on the day, but the Hoosiers pulled off an impressive upset in the varsity eight race, downing the Buckeyes by a length in a time of 6:30.4; OSU followed in 6:34.9, and the Spartans were clocked in 7:01.6. Th 2V8 race wet to the Buckeyes (6:39.9), with Indiana in second (6:51.7) and Michigan State third (7:06.5)

The Spartans, who have seen good results from their fours and novice boats in recent weeks, got a third-place finish from the second novice eight boat, six seats ahead of Indiana at the finish (7:26.5-7:29.3), but both entries were behind Ohio State's 3V4 and second novice boat (7:02.6 and 7:13.6, respectively.) The Buckeyes won the novice eight race in a time of 7:00.9, with Indiana a half length behind (7:02.3) and MSU taking third in a time of 7:10.12.

In the fours, the Buckeyes swept all three races and Indiana was second in the races as well. OSU had two entries in the 3V4/4V4 race, and the Spartans and OSU 4v4 were separated by just a second at the finish, with MSU clocking a 7:57.8.

MSU has one more race in the regular season, and heads east to the Women's Sprints in Worcester, Mass (Lake Quinsigamond) next Saturday.
